From A Rooftop in Brooklyn

rooftop

I stand on this rooftop looking out at the lights in the windows and the twinkling span of the Verrazano bridge and the waxing moon rising above the buildings, and troubles seem distant for a moment.

But my heart is heavy today. Someone I care about is in a coma with a brain injury while his mother waits in anguish for some change, and the story of how this happened is too sad and senseless for words. So forgive me if this is not the post I wanted to write, about New York in October, and walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, and the little café down the street, and all the affirmations of the city and the memories.

I'll be back.
